Redtails U18 v Goldfields (Victoria) U18 - 9.04.2018 at Alice Springs

U18 Redtails versed U18 Goldfields Victorian team in Alice Springs on the 9th and 10th April 2018

A great time was had by all when 22 Under 18 football players from the Goldfields visited Central Australia for a week of community engagement, new experiences, and a football game against the Central Australian Redtails U/18s.

The Goldfields team was comprised of the four leagues around the Victorian districts of Bendigo and Ballarat. Whilst the Redtails Under 18 team has players from the CAFL and remote communities, including Amoonguna, Harts Range, Hermannsburg, Papunya and Santa Teresa.

The first Redtails v Goldfield clash that was played at Traeger Park had a fierce pace, with both teams displaying exciting skills from the first bounce and quality ball use amongst intense pressure. This was the highlight of the Redtails outfit. In what was a very entertaining game, Jackson Renzi was voted best for the Redtails who went down by 41-points to the Victorian team, Goldfields 13.12.90 – Redtails 7.7.49.

On the following day for the second game held out at Albrecht Oval, started of where both teams finished in the first game with intense tackling and body work in the first 15 mins of the game. Unfortunatley the game was called off due to a Goldfield player going down with severe injury to his leg, but this did not stop the two teams from rallying together and applauding the injured player as he was stretchered off the field as the sun set, seeing the game come to a halt.

More highlights of the week for the young men from the Goldfields was a team trip to Uluru and a cultural exchange trip to the Hermannsburg community, where players assisted students in class at Ntaria school.
