Pinktails - Around The Campfire Cup 2018

Pinktails head back to another Around the Campfire Cup on October the 13th 2018 at Alberton Oval

The Pinktails squad, comprising of a mix of our up and coming junior U18 girls and of our senior more experienced ladies, headed to the Around the Campfire Cup Carnival at Alberton Oval to compete against ADF Guyala, SA Aboriginal All Stars, Port Adelaide, Morphettville Park, Adelaide Uni and West Torrens in 20 minute games consisting of 2, 10 minute halves. Sam Hill as Captain led our girls out to battle, with Rob Clarke as Coach and Ian McAdam as Assistant Coach. Our Pinktails were first to hit the filed straight after the Opening Ceremony with the Yellaka Dance. We played ADF Guyala who were a team comprised of some players from Grout Island. It was a tough game with plenty of intensity and pace from both sides. Unfortunately Ellis was our only goals scorer in the 1st half while they kicked 2 goals 1. Neither side could add any more to their score in the 2nd half resulting in our 1st loss by 7 points. PINKTAILS 1-0-6 to ADF GUYALA 2-1-13. Best on ground – Felisha Swan, Ebony Miller & Kirra Surace. In the second game we came up against SA Aboriginal All Stars for another competitive game in some pretty warm conditions. The Pinktails started to find some rhythm creating some impressive forward movement and making the most of these opportunities to have Ellis and Hill slot 3goals 2 points for our 1st half. Our defenders, Remfrey, Abbott, Davis, Crowby, Hartung, Lena, Birch and Braun were ferocious with their attack at anything that came their way and there delivery to the midfield exceptional keeping the opposition scoreless for the entire game. Our shots at goal in the 2nd half were a little rushed resulting in 5 minors and a victory by 25 points. PINKTAILS 3-7-25 to SA ABORIGINAL ALL STARS 0-0-0 Best on Ground – Sam Hill, Jessica Haranischfeger & Kirra Surace. Our next challengers were Port Adelaide. Our midfield contingent comprised of Grellman, Miller, Mc Cormack, Riley, Surace, Carmody, Swan, the Hunter Twins and Davis-Tahere hit their straps and exerted some impressive power plays to inject the ball down to our forwards Kindness, Wilson, Ellis, Taylor Haranischfeger, Couch and Hill. These ladies created some effective ball movement resulting in 7 goals 2 points being scored in the 1st half and 3 goals 5 in the 2nd half with Hill bagging 4 goals for the game and Hartung, Wilson, Miller, Swan, Grellman and Ellis 1 goal each. Once again our stalwart defenders Abbott, Davis, Remfrey, Braun, Crowby, Birch and Petyarre dealt with any injection severely and kept the Port side scoreless creating a 67 point victory for us. PINKTAILS 10-7-67 to PORT ADELAIDE 0-0-0 Best on Ground – Ebony Miller, Felisha Swan & Sam Hill. Morphettville Park were our next challenge in game 4, by this stage all teams were feeling a little weary and the effects of the warm day. Our Pinktails took the challenge as they had all day with plenty of grit and determination in amongst some brilliant aerial and ground skills. In the end it was another solid victory as our amazing defenders and midfield relentlessly hunted the ball down and delivered it to our eager forwards keeping the opposition scoreless once again and allowing the following ladies to score, Ellis with 3, Swan with 2 and Hartung, Miller, Birch and Hill one goal each to add another victory to our days tally by 58 points. PINKTAILS 9-4-58 to  MORPHETTVILLE PARK 0-0-0 best on Ground – Caitlin Couch, Rachel Hartung & Michelle Ellis. Our final game was against Adelaide Uni, this game we needed to win to get the opportunity to play in the Final against 2 of the favourites for the day being West Torrens and ADF Guyala, so it was an important one to win. In true Centralian style the Pinktails gave it their all and added another victory to their day by once again containing the opposition a scoreless result. Ellis, Hill and Couch added a goal each for us and our final victory by 21 points. PINKTAILS 3-3-21 to ADELAIDE UNI 0-0-0 Best on Ground – Felisha Swan, Lauren Taylor & Kirstin Remfrey. As it turned out we didn’t get the opportunity to play in the final that was between West Torrens and ADF Guyala with West Torrens taking out the Cup. It was a brilliant effort all day by the Ladies with one of our most memorable highlights being from our smallest yet mightiest of players that had the heart of a Lion the way she hunted down her opposition and didn’t let size deter her as she leapt onto her opponent that was nearly triple her size to bring her to the ground albeit a little illegally but extremely effective and so entertaining for us all on the sideline, A Great Effort Kirra, love your energy.                            Recap of trip by Alecia Clarke
