Pinktails - Around The Campfire Cup SA

The Pinktails flew to Adelaide for the Around The Campfire Cup to play Adelaide Uni on the 10th of October 2015 at Adelaide Airport Stadium.

Chad McLaren organised and invited The Pinktails to compete in the Around The Campfire Cup with a concert held afterwards. This was a perfect opportunity for the girls to test themselves against the Premiers of the Division 2 League in SA. On Saturday the 10th October at 2pm the girls hit the footy field. It was a pretty even start with both sides finding their rhythm, having our girls in the lead by 1 goal and 3 points at the end of the 1st quarter. The girls adjusted to the bigger playing field and increase in playing numbers on the field (In the CAFL Women's League they only play a third of the oval with 10 on the field). We were concerned that their fitness may not be good enough to adjust to these conditions, but true to Central Australian style they stood up to the challenge and proved this was far from the case.
In the 2nd quarter the Pinktails powered away from Adelaide Uni and started to really gel as a team, kicking 6 goals and keeping the opposition scoreless. Their intensity and confidence grew as the game continued. Their skills were sharp and the pace exciting as they continued to dominate the game with the majority of the play. Adelaide Uni battled on courageously as the reigning Premiers of their Division 2 League, but it was to be the Pinktails that sealed the victory by 54 points.

After the trip, some of the girls from the Pinktails team, due to their exposure from the Adelaide trip, were presented the opportunity to play in an All-Stars game with women selected from all over the NT. This gave them the opportunity to play in front of selectors for the chance to enter the AFLNT’s State Academy. It is a very exciting time for Women’s Football with the talk of a National competition starting up in 2017.

8 of the Pinktails Squad were also identified for the NT Thunder Talent Program in 2016.
Kate Dean, Jordann Hickey, Sissy Dunn and Kerry-Anne White were selected for the Senior Women’s Talent Squad Members. Renee Cusack, Kiara White, Felisha Swan and Shaquille Swan were selected in the Young Girls Talent Squad Members.
